Happy Mother’s Day!

My mom was notorious for waking us up with a good morning song. “Good morning to you. Good morning to you…” It was to the tune of Happy Birthday. It would be stuck in my head for far too long during the day. But it was preferable to the following song that she could have just as easily sung. 🙂

I don’t think anybody could accuse my mom of not having fun. Sometimes her version of fun embarrassed us, like the time she and some other ladies from church did a little musical number and got so tickled they almost couldn’t finish it. Other times she just flat played too hard, like the time she got the word “saddle” in Guesstures and threw her back out riding an imaginary horse. At least she didn’t dance in the aisles of the grocery store like Kid President suggests below.

Without my mom, I would have not taken piano lessons, not had someone to rub my legs in the middle of the night, not learned to cook, never viewed commercials as opportune times to get chores done or had near as much help packing up and moving so many times. Then, of course, there is the obvious: I wouldn’t be here if she didn’t given birth to me. But most importantly, without my mom, I don’t think I would have known Jesus from such a young age. I can’t remember a time I didn’t know that He died for my sins and rose on Easter to defeat death. The Easter Bunny never came to our house, and I’m thankful because it means Jesus gets the focus of that holiday in my mind.

When Mom worked for a produce company, she told us never to get her flowers for Mother’s Day or Valentine’s Day. I don’t have the will power to buy and mail candy. And, unlike last year, I’m not in town to cook for her. So, Mom, this year you get a video bouquet on my blog. Happy Mother’s Day!

Love you 🙂

Her children rise up and call her blessed.
