Nineteen days ago I posted a countdown on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest for a couple of reasons. The first being to make me actually post the blog. It’s been on the back burner for so long in the “someday” file that I knew it would never happen if I didn’t announce it publicly. What’s more public than the worldwide web?
Secondly, I wanted people to know about it. I’ve written other blogs in the past with varying degrees of publicity. None were as public as this one is.
What I didn’t know about my little countdown is how much it would drive people crazy. At no point did I say anything about what the countdown was for or hype it to any degree. My family and FB friends did that for me! The most I said was that I was building anticipation.
Well, let it be known that my friends, family and associates have some wild imaginations. Here are some of the hypotheses I heard from some of you during the countdown:
“Are you adopting a child?”–my mother
“You’re eloping, aren’t you?”– multiple people
“Are you moving?”–high school student
“You’re pregnant?!”–same high school student
“You’re finally getting a smart phone.”–mom again
“You’re starting a new job. Congratulations!”–one of my brother’s more appropriate guesses
“This better be good!”–a college friend
“People are gonna be disappointed.”–another college friend
“That’s annoying.”–college student
“You’re not building anticipation. You are, however, building frustration.”–my brother only 2 days into the countdown
I’m sorry to disappoint those of you who thought I was starting a family in any number of creative ways. All that I’m birthing is this blog. However, I hope the disappointment passes and you allow yourself to be encouraged by what has encouraged me. While there are only a handful of items on the blog currently, I have posts written and scheduled for the rest of the month and more outlined for beyond that. Come back each day, or simply subscribe.
If you like what you read, share it. If you don’t, let me know. Thanks for counting down with me either way. 🙂
